Divine Fits and Substitute Teaching: An Interview with Spoon's Britt Daniel

From Austinist

What did you substitute teach? Was that in Austin?

Yeah, I was in Austin. I quickly figured out that high school was the easiest. There was elementary school, middle school, high school. Middle school was the hardest, high school was the easiest, and I also figured out that the better neighborhood the school was in, the more relaxed and chill everybody was, and the easier my job was. So I would try to get in to the high school in the wealthiest part of town, that’s where I would try to go.

And I only say that because I would know these kids for one day. It wasn’t like I was teaching them anything. I was basically there to make sure that nobody was fucking under a desk or killing each other.
